Tip for getting through the grocery store

Tonight I needed to go grab a few items from the grocery store and as usual I was dreading it. The kids fight or touch everything and Gideon wants out to join in the madness. Lilly has recently become obsessed with the little quarter machine in the front of the store and Owen has followed suit. (No surprise there) Anyway, the machines finally had this toy mustache that she has been wanting for weeks! So I dug out a quarter, Owen had one in his pocket all ready for the store. Both kids got this 25 cent toy and were getting along, singing, and just purely entertained with something new. Gideon got the little plastic that it came in so it kept him busy too. I think I will spend the extra 50 cents on the way into the store next time just for the pure peace it could bring.

Home Schooling ABC’s

Often times we get the big question, “where do we start with this home school?” Yes there are some ABC’s and 123’s when you finally make the decision to school your children. A few thoughts to consider are:

1. Charter Programs- Yes we home school but we also attend a charter. There are classes, facilitators to assist, and you have the support of hired help.
2. Church Family- There are a lot of mom’s and dad’s that are attending such programs and you can lean on fellow parents that have support and great tips.
3. Online Groups- With the internet being a sea of information, you can find local groups for moral support and breaks to spread the work load as other parents might be looking for the      same. You are not the only parent that needs support.
4. A powerful guide is “homeschooling ABC’s” that you can invest $10.00 and get solid support and encouragement to minimize any frustration or confusion.

Remember, you are not alone. Reach out for support and utilize all of your resources. Never be too afraid to ask for help and clarify and unanswered questions as there is a big family willing to see you succeed in your home schooling endeavor.

Listening to Audio Books

Audio Books are Ear Resistable

Audio Books are Ear Resistable

I would say my biggest past time right now for myself is listening to books on tape.  I get them from the library in either CD form or through their electronic library then put them on my iPod.  It is great for housework!  I just put on a book, go to work and the time flies.  I also listen while I am driving so the kids can hear their music or movie or audio book.  I am going through quite a few books.  The library has so many resources that are not just print books. If you visit Saclibrary.org under the catalog section you can see the eaudiobook link.  You just use your library card and create a pin very easy and they have a lot to choose from. Robert likes the self improvement.  You can even download them onto your phone (if it’s fancy enough).

Home School -Huge Success for Our Family!

I recently started home schooling my son and continued with my daughter.  Lilly is in 4th grade now and doing exceptionally well!  When we started half way through 1st grade she wasn’t even at grade level.  Now according to the state standardized NEWA testing she is on level for math, ahead for reading and one point away from being advanced in language arts.  She has the opportunity to take science, drawing, Spanish, a writing process class, Taekwondo, ballet, jazz and tap dance.

Owen has just finished the Kindergarten math program! Owens classes include; writing, computer math lab, Spanish, Taekwondo and tap dance.   We are truly blessed to have the opportunity to focus on our kids education.  I love that I can tailor their curriculum based on where they are.  If they were in public school and Owen flew ahead in math he would be stuck waiting on the rest of the class.

Public school does a wonderful service for the community and if we were forced to put our kids in we would.  I am just saying that I enjoy home schooling and am thankful for the opportunity. There are many different ways to home school.  If your thinking about it, my vote is a yes!
