Listening to Audio Books
I would say my biggest past time right now for myself is listening to books on tape. I get them from the library in either CD form or through their electronic library then put them on my iPod. It is great for housework! I just put on a book, go to work and the time flies. I also listen while I am driving so the kids can hear their music or movie or audio book. I am going through quite a few books. The library has so many resources that are not just print books. If you visit Saclibrary.org under the catalog section you can see the eaudiobook link. You just use your library card and create a pin very easy and they have a lot to choose from. Robert likes the self improvement. You can even download them onto your phone (if it’s fancy enough).
Saying So Long
Today is a day we say so long to some friends who are moving away. It’s not just my friend but Lilly and Owen’s also. Rachael was instrumental in my home schooling start and success. It is rare to find someone you trust unconditionally. You know the kind that you can call at 3 am and know they will be there no questions asked. I know they are not going far but I still can’t keep the emotions at bay. I plan to visit them in the spring but it won’t be the same. I know we can keep in touch via Facebook and I’m grateful for that! I’m not sure how Owen is going to take to her son Ashton leaving. Owen has looked up to Ashton and wanted to be around him for at least 3 years. Considering he is 5 that is more than half his life! I know this move is good for them so I will try to be happy and not selfish wanting them to stay….
Home School -Huge Success for Our Family!
I recently started home schooling my son and continued with my daughter. Lilly is in 4th grade now and doing exceptionally well! When we started half way through 1st grade she wasn’t even at grade level. Now according to the state standardized NEWA testing she is on level for math, ahead for reading and one point away from being advanced in language arts. She has the opportunity to take science, drawing, Spanish, a writing process class, Taekwondo, ballet, jazz and tap dance.
Owen has just finished the Kindergarten math program! Owens classes include; writing, computer math lab, Spanish, Taekwondo and tap dance. We are truly blessed to have the opportunity to focus on our kids education. I love that I can tailor their curriculum based on where they are. If they were in public school and Owen flew ahead in math he would be stuck waiting on the rest of the class.
Public school does a wonderful service for the community and if we were forced to put our kids in we would. I am just saying that I enjoy home schooling and am thankful for the opportunity. There are many different ways to home school. If your thinking about it, my vote is a yes!
Christmas is almost here
It is hard to believe that Christmas is almost here. Time is flying and the children are growing so very fast. Where did 2009 go? I look forward to the 2010 year.
